     Fulltime: Every Sunday 9:30AM-12:00NOON

     Part-time: Every other Sunday 9:30AM-12:00NOON

Parparim, the Hebrew word for butterflies, is an innovative program especially designed to allow pre-K children to spread their wings and learn in a religious school educational setting. This class focuses on developing your child's Jewish identity through Jewish themes and ideas that they identify in their everyday lives. Our program provides the tools that allow 3 and 4 year olds to learn Hebrew though a weekly Hebrew immersion program. Classroom prayer experience helps foster a love of the Hebrew language and comfort with Jewish communal worship. We build your child's love and curiosity of Judaism though singing, playing, and fun!

Kindergarten to 2nd Grade

Sundays only: 9:30AM-12:00NOON

The curriculum focuses on communicating major concepts that provide the foundation for a lifetime of Jewish learning and living. The concepts are based on the three tenants of Judaism:

Torah (Study) - An ongoing dialogue between the text and our students, which helps them develop the skills to study Torah and integrate Jewish teachings into their everyday lives.

Avodah (Prayer) - Provides students with the understanding to find their own sacred connections to God, community, and self through prayer.

G'milut Chasadim (Acts of Loving Kindness) - Teaches students that we all have a responsibility make the world a better place through acts of Jewish charity, social justice, and kindness.

Our curriculum focuses on an introduction to Hebrew reading through letter and vowel recognition and sound combinations. We make Hebrew learning fun with the use of games and music. Our computers are equipped with special language-learning software to stimulate interest and keep children's attention. Each grade has a specifically designed curriculum with a technology component.

3rd Grade

Sundays only: 9:30AM-12:00NOON

3rd Grade "Hebrew Boot Camp"

Through individualized instruction, each child will be given the tools and guidance to read Hebrew aloud by the end of the year. Focus will be on letter and vowel recognition presented in a fun and engaging manner, including the use of interactive computer software. Judaics including holidays, Israel, and ethics will also be taught through the lens of Hebrew learning. Students will understand the importance of Hebrew as the key to participation in the worldwide Jewish community.

4th - 6th Grade

Sunday: 9:30AM-12:00NOON

A continuation of the K-2 and 3rd grade curriculum which teaches the foundation for a lifetime of Jewish learning and living. Based on the three tenants of Judaism: Torah (Study), Avodah (Prayer), and G'milut Chasadim (Acts of Loving Kindness).

Our curriculum focuses on Hebrew reading and prayer fluency that fosters a high level of comfort and ability for our students to participate in Jewish communal life. Classes are arranged by ability, not grade, so that each student receives the correct attention and direction they need to reach their true Hebrew language potential.

Social Action

Within their Judaics class, 6th graders explore the Jewish imperative to engage in works of Tikkun Olam (the repair of the world.) This classroom learning is put into action as students participate in our “6th Grade Mitzvah Makers” Program, which provides students and families with ongoing volunteer opportunities within our temple and broader Baltimore communities. Students participate in “6th Grade Mitzvah Makers” as the social justice component leading up to their Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

7th Grade

Sundays: 9:30AM-12:00NOON

Midot (Ethics)

Interactive seminars focusing on Jewish values, ethics and Jewish law and how they impact the way we live our lives today.

Jewish Decision Making

Madrichim Training

7th grade students are guided through the creation and implementation of lesson plans and activities in communicating the importance of Judaism and participation in the Jewish community for younger students. Our 7th graders serve as real and accessible Jewish role models for our younger students.

Social Action

Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, is not only taught but practiced at Temple Oheb Shalom. The 7th grade will spend a few Sundays out of the classroom giving back to our community while learning the importance of Tikkun Olam.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Junior Youth Group

Students enrolled in 2nd through 7th grade are invited to participate in monthly informal activities following Sunday Religious School. This programming allows our students to get to know each other outside of the classroom. For more information, see our Youth Programs section.

In Home Havdalah

Each grade and their families are invited to attend an annual Havdalah and dinner program in the home of a fellow student. This will help the grade build relationships among students and families in the school.
