Mission Statement
Our mission at Temple Oheb Shalom’s Office of Life Long Learning is to create and nurture a sacred community through study.  We believe that a strong commitment to lifelong learning brings the presence of God and k’dushah (holiness) into our lives, enhances religious expression, promotes acts of loving kindness and mutual respect, supports commitments to Tikkun Olam (repairing our world), and encourages personal ethical behavior according to Jewish values.  We embrace the individual Jewish journey of each member.
About Beit Midrash
The Family Education/Beit Midrash Program encourages each family to:
  • Teach Jewish values and rituals
  • Explore their Jewish identity
  • Create Jewish memories
  • Participate in interactive multigenerational Jewish learning
Kindergarten: Pages of Fun
Explore some wonderful Jewish Children's Books. Our book club will feature crafts, music, games, and a varety of other activities that will make each book come alive.
Grades 1 – 3: Medley of Learning
The parent/guardian will study with Sally Fink without their child for the first part of the class. During this time your child will be taken out of their classrooms and have a lesson with Stacy Crain that will be the same content as their parent/guardian is learning, but, age appropriate. The families will then come together for an interactive lesson that will enrich the lessons they learned separately. The adult time is a perfect place to meet other adults and ask Jewish questions so adults can become the child’s Jewish resource and Jewish role model.
The goal of these lessons is to create meaning and positive connections between their Religious School learning and their homes.
Grade 4: Mitzvot, God and B'nei Mitzvah Preparation
Parent/Guardian and your child will study together as they explore the world of Judaism through hands-on experience.
Grade 5: Roots and Wings Class
Enter the world of raising a Jewish teenager by identifying risky behaviors and their consequences, social media issues, and appropriate responses. Parent/Guardian will study separately for the first part of class and then their child will join them to discuss this delicate topic with trained social workers and Stacy.
Grade 6:  B’nai Mitzvah Preparation
Explore the rituals and customs surrounding the Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration. An appetizer for a great event.
How Do I Sign Up?
You are automatically signed up when you enroll in the Religious School. *In order for your child to participate in Family Education, one or more adult family members must be present. Don’t be left out!  Register your child in Temple Oheb Shalom Religious School and “take a bite out of Jewish Learning.” Call the Religious School Office 410-358-0105.
